What to prepare before the visit

When you call or meet with us to book an appointment for your pet, we may ask you to collect and submit urine or fecal samples to our clinic. This is essential for us to provide the best possible care for your pet. If you’re unsure whether this has been requested, feel free to call us before the scheduled appointment to confirm.

General urine examination

Urine samples should be collected in special containers, syringes, or well-cleaned household containers; they do not need to be sterile. It is crucial to submit the urine sample to the clinic within an hour of collection, as it needs to be analyzed within six hours. During this time, the sample must reach the clinic and be sent to the laboratory for preliminary procedures. Avoid collecting urine from dirty surfaces such as inappropriate cat litter boxes, tiles, floors, or ground to prevent contamination.

Fecal examination

For fecal samples, collect three samples in total, one every other day, such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each sample should fill about half of a standard container intended for this purpose. Label each sample with the collection date, owner’s name, and pet’s name. Store the samples in the refrigerator until all three are collected. After gathering all samples, submit them to the clinic together.

How to collect urine or fecal samples effectively

For Cats: The easiest way to collect urine is to use specialized, non-absorbent cat litter. This allows the urine to collect at the bottom of the box for aspiration. Thoroughly clean and rinse the litter box with hot water before use. Some cats prefer to urinate in a completely empty box.

For Dogs: Collect urine during urination in a specialized container. If this is challenging, you can use a wider container (e.g., a medical kidney dish, ladle, or other flat container) that has been thoroughly cleaned.
